Syndemics: Untangling a complex mix of HIV, heart disease, social issues

People living with HIV have good treatment options to manage the virus, but are also at higher risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems. Investigators at the Division of Research have started a project that examines the complex ways that biological, social, and other factors interact to increase a person’s risk of heart disease. They are using a method called syndemics. DOR Research Scientist Michael Silverberg, PhD, MPH, and adjunct investigator Derek Satre, PhD, discuss their work on the latest KP Research Radio podcast, in conversation with DOR science writer Jan Greene.
