The Division of Research of The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente Northern California) seeks an early stage or mid-career investigator to establish a nation-leading research program in dementia. The research focus of this position is on early- and midlife risk factors for dementia with a special emphasis on social determinants of health.
This Research Scientist position calls for relevant experience and research expertise in dementia, life course theory, social epidemiology, disparities research, and advanced statistical methods. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in using a range of methodological approaches, including causal inference and competing risks, in data from integrated health care delivery systems, cohort data, and publicly available historical records. The successful candidate is also expected to have a track record of peer-reviewed publications, his/her own externally funded research portfolio, and experience leading studies that use primary data collection. He/she is expected to collaborate with other DOR scientists on content and methodologic issues and develop national and international collaborations to advance research in his/her respective topic area.
Investigators in the Division of Research draw on rich clinical data derived from a comprehensive state-of-the-art electronic medical record and enjoy direct access to a diverse population of >4.3 million members afforded by its location within Kaiser Permanente Northern California. This Oakland-based group has more than 50 research scientists who lead well-developed programs in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, health care delivery and policy, behavioral health and aging, cancer, infectious diseases, and women’s and children’s health. DOR investigators are primarily supported by grant and contract funding from federal and other external sources, especially the National Institutes of Health.
Preferred qualifications include a PhD or equivalent in epidemiology, health services research, or a related field. A medical or other clinical degree along with a master’s degree in a research field may also be appropriate.
