At-home dialysis makes life better

In 2008, Kaiser Permanente Northern California launched a systemwide Optimal Start approach to increase at-home (peritoneal) dialysis for advanced kidney disease.

A new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine shows that at-home dialysis provides a convenient and safe way to manage kidney disease compared with center-based hemodialysis.

KP Research Radio’s Janet Byron talks to Kaiser Permanente’s Dr. Leonid Pravoverov (shown) and Dr. Alan Go about how their study can help other large health care systems to improve care for patients with advanced kidney disease.
