Kaiser Permanente is an integrated health care delivery system with a diverse membership in eight regions across the United States. In Northern California, Kaiser Permanente includes a health plan with >4.3 million members who are cared for by a single multi-specialty physician group with more than 9,500 physicians at 21 hospitals and >200 medical offices. These facilities handle over 300,000 hospital discharges, 1.6 million emergency department visits, and 22 million outpatient visits per year. The Division of Research, founded in 1961, has more than 600 people on staff, including 67 faculty-level investigators with more than 460 ongoing, funded projects on a wide range of health research topics. In 2022, the Division’s research portfolio included over $133 million in grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies, private foundations, industry, and Kaiser Permanente. Our investigators have made contributions in many areas, including health services research, disease prevention, patient engagement, chronic illness management, clinical trials, the role of genes and the environment in health, informatics, and delivery science.

Embedded within the Division of Research, the Kaiser Permanente Vaccine Study Center (KPVSC) is a leader in evaluating vaccines with a long history of collaboration with multiple federal agencies, particularly the CDC’s Immunization Safety Office. The KPVSC has also been engaged in Phase II, III, and IV vaccine trials, collaborating with the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA to help bring new vaccines into licensure and then to evaluate and ensure their safetyMost recently, the KPVSC was instrumental in all aspects regarding COVID-19 vaccines: conducting clinical trials prior to authorization, monitoring their safety after widespread use, and assessing their effectiveness through national collaborative research projects. Additionally, KPVSC has played a critical role in monitoring the safety and effectiveness of other vaccines, including influenza, pertussis, measles, respiratory syncytial virus, shingles, and pneumococcal vaccines. Currently, KPVSC has a team of over 40 individuals, including 3 MD/PhD-level investigators, programmer analysts, project managers, research assistants, nurses, and physicians. We are currently seeking an experienced biostatistician to provide high-level analytic and statistical support for a portfolio of studies focused on vaccine research.

Kaiser Permanente is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and individuals from all backgrounds, especially those from historically underrepresented groups, are encouraged to apply.

Residency within Northern California is preferable, and residency in California or Hawaii is required for employment.
