Cao, Anlan

Anlan Cao, PhD, MBBS, is a translational research postdoctoral fellow at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research within the Cancer Section. Her main research interests include energy balance and cancer survivorship. Her current work focuses on developing new chemotherapy dosing strategy based on body composition using statistical modeling and electronic health records (EHR). Prior to joining the Division of Research, Dr. Cao received her doctorate in epidemiology from Yale University, and her medical degree in preventive medicine from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Optimizing Cancer Chemotherapy Dosing Based on Lean Body Mass

The current chemotherapy dosing based on body surface area leads to high rates and variation of chemotoxicities. Evidence on lean body mass (LBM) and cancer prognosis indicates the potential for this new metric to be incorporated into chemotherapy dosing to minimize toxicity. The proposed project will build an evidence base for exploring the potential of optimizing chemotherapy dosage based on LBM by leveraging advanced statistical modeling techniques.
