Jonathan Liang, MD, MPH, FARS, FACS is a physician-researcher with The Permanente Medical Group’s Delivery Science and Applied Research Physician Researcher Program and an Adjunct Investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research. He also serves as a staff Otolaryngologist–Head and Neck Surgeon with The Permanente Medical Group, where he specializes in the comprehensive medical and surgical management of chronic and complex sinonasal disease, as well as sinonasal and skull base tumors.
Dr. Liang is the Chair of the Inter-Regional Rhinology Group, a national collaborative within Kaiser Permanente that advances subspecialty Head and Neck Surgery care through evidence-based decision-making and systemwide optimization of patient outcomes. He plays a vital role in medical education and research as the Director of Research and Associate Program Director for the Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program in Oakland. In addition, he is an active mentor and educator for medical students through the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine and the Kaiser Permanente SCORE Program.
His research portfolio includes investigations into risk factors and outcomes in chronic sinus disease and sinus surgery, prognostics for skull base tumors, and applications of the unified airway theory. He is also engaged in implementation science, evidence-based care, and the integration of emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence—to enhance clinical decision-making. His current work explores novel biomarkers and biologic therapies for chronic rhinosinusitis, with a focus on translating research into impactful clinical innovations.
