Tierney, Aaron A.

Aaron Tierney, PhD, is a post-doctoral research fellow at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. His research interests include studying ways to improve quality, access, and utilization of health information technologies among disadvantaged populations, reduce physician burden (especially in relation to the electronic medical record), and implementation science.

He serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) subcommittee and is a former student editor for the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association’s (JAMIA) editorial board.

His PhD is in Health Policy from the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and he holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Columbia University in the City of New York.

While he is primarily a quantitative researcher with experience using causal inference and conjoint survey methodologies, he also has experience in mixed methods research and qualitative work. This includes qualitative research in a previous position at Stanford University Medical School and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System as well as mixed methods work on projects with Community Health Partnership (a coalition of community health centers in California’s Bay Area) and UCSF’s Center for Clinical Informatics and Improvement Research (CLIIR).
