Pragmatic Risk Score to Identify Patients at Risk of Severe Hypoglycemia

A two-year study to develop and validate a pragmatic risk scoring tool to predict severe hypoglycemic (SH) events among patients with diabetes. This tool will be developed for use by clinicians to identify patients at high risk for SH, defined as low plasma glucose level for which the patient requires assistance. The proposed scoring tool will provide healthcare providers with a simple and practical way to identify patients at high risk of severe hypoglycemia to guide shared decision-making with respect to modifications or intensification of glucose-lowering therapy in out-patient clinical settings.
