Synch and Swim: Establishing Infrastructure for Collaborative Nursing Research in California

This project aims to lay the groundwork for collaborative nursing research effort involving both Kaiser Permanente California regions. Its initial focus is hospital-based and has two aims: 1) Establishing governance mechanisms that will facilitate and accelerate inter-regional collaboration with respect to nursing research; and 2) Defining a set of algorithms that will permit the two regions to establish common data definitions for nursing research. Synchronization will involve algorithms used to extract, format and clean data from existing KP database systems, with special emphasis on use of the Integrated Data Repository (IDR). This will permit creation of very large datasets containing data from all Kaiser Permanente California hospitals and continuum departments.
