Helena I. Archer, PhD, MPH, is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Vaccine Study Center at Kaiser Permanente Division of Research. She completed her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley and her MPH at the University of Washington, both in epidemiology, and her bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina in health policy and management. Her research interests include the prevention of infections and severe disease in vulnerable populations, including identifying and addressing health disparities and brining research to practice. At DOR, she studies vaccine effectiveness and safety with a focus on pregnant and pediatric populations.

Prior to joining the VSC, her research focused on environmental and systemic drivers of COVID-19, including studies of housing and vaccine uptake and effectiveness in state prisons. Dr. Archer also received an NIH/NIEHS supplement to investigate COVID-19 outcomes in communities with exposure to nitrates and arsenic through public drinking water systems with the UC Berkeley Superfund Research Center. She has worked for local and federal public health agencies and completed field research and technical work in southern Africa.
