Nareg Roubinian, MD, MPH, is an adjunct investigator and physician researcher at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research and a practicing pulmonary and critical care physician at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland and Richmond medical centers. He has served as the research chair at the Kaiser Permanente East Bay Medical Center since 2022 and regional lead for pulmonary research since 2023. Dr. Roubinian joined the Permanente Medical Group Physician Researcher Program in 2025.
Over the past 14 years, Dr. Roubinian has collaborated with investigators at the Division of Research, the University of California, San Francisco, and Vitalant Research Institute on a number of studies related to blood transfusion and bleeding, venous thrombosis, COVID-19, and interstitial lung disease.
Dr. Roubinian is a Professor and the Senior Advisor for Academic Affairs in the Department of Clinical Science at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J Tyson School of Medicine where he is responsible for clinical faculty appointments and promotions. He is an associate program director for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship program. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. His current research interests include observational studies across a broad range of clinical conditions, including diagnosis and management of pulmonary nodules suspicious for lung cancer, venous thromboembolism, outcomes of blood transfusion, and non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease.
Dr. Roubinian earned his MD at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, after completing his BS at University of California, Berkeley. His residency was in Internal Medicine at Washington University in Saint Louis and fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2015.
