Our observational and clinical trial research focuses on cardiovascular, cardio-renal, kidney, and metabolic conditions and spans the entire life course, from pregnancy and early childhood through acute and chronic heart diseases seen in young adult, middle-aged, and older populations.
Our research advances our knowledge on the best ways to prevent, manage, and treat cardiovascular diseases and metabolic conditions. This work includes studies such as Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA), Study of Women, Infant Feeding, and Type 2 Diabetes after Gestational Diabetes (SWIFT), and the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC). We also contribute to multi-institutional partnerships such as the Cardiovascular Research Network.
Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) and Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and heart failure are leading causes of death in the United States. Our researchers are involved in many epidemiologic studies and clinical trials aimed at improving care for people with these conditions.
Ischemic Stroke Prevention and Treatment
Stroke is a major cause of serious disability for adults. It is also preventable and treatable. Kaiser Permanente researchers lead or collaborate on a range of stroke prevention and treatment studies.
Endocrinology and Metabolism
Our ongoing longitudinal studies are examining the epidemiology of metabolic risk factors and endocrine disorders as they influence the development of atherosclerosis and a range of cardiovascular complications across the life course.
Kidney Diseases
Our research is examining the epidemiology of metabolic risk factors and endocrine disorders as they influence the development of atherosclerosis and a range of cardiovascular complications across the life course.
