Podcast highlights Kaiser Permanente research for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
For most breast cancer patients, treatment will include surgery to remove the tumor. For some women and men, the best option will be a mastectomy — the surgical removal of the full breast. For decades, most mastectomy patients spent at least one night in the hospital to recover from their surgery.
But as surgical techniques and patient care improve, a growing number of hospitals are making it possible for mastectomy patients to go home the same day as their surgery.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to look at advances in breast cancer treatment and patient care. In this new episode of KP Research Radio, we talk with Brooke Vuong, MD, a breast cancer surgeon at the Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center, about her research on the Surgical Home Recovery Program and the impact the program has had on her patients.
You can learn more about Vuong and her research on the home recovery program in this Research Spotlight news story.
