Infectious Diseases - Tuberculosis

Section members are actively involved in a unique collaboration supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve identification, diagnosis, prevention, and control of tuberculosis disease and latent infection. The Tuberculosis Epidemiologic Studies Consortium III uses electronic medical record data to identify primary care settings that serve non-U.S.-born individuals who are at increased risk of TB infection, and tests interventions to identify and prevent active TB disease. Investigators in various Kaiser Permanente regions have collaborated to develop a predictive algorithm to identify patients and explored barriers to treatment. DOR researchers worked with clinicians to assess the increased risk of death for people with active TB disease, along with health care system utilization.
